Photoelastic analisys in the lower region of vertebral body L4

چکیده
OBJECTIVE To analyze the shear forces on the vertebral body L4 when submitted to a compression force by means of transmission photoelasticity. METHODS Twelve photoelastic models were divided into three groups, with four models per group, according to the positioning of the sagittal section vertebrae L4-L5 (sections A, B and C). The simulation was performed using a 15N compression force, and the fringe orders were evaluated in the vertebral body L4 by the Tardy compensation method. RESULTS Photoelastic analysis showed, in general, a homogeneous distribution in the vertebral bodies. The shear forces were higher in section C than B, and higher in B than A. CONCLUSION The posterior area of L4, mainly in section C, showed higher shear concentrations, corresponding to a more susceptible area for bone fracture and spondylolisthesis. Clinical Identification of the Vertebral Level at Which the Lumbar Sympathetic Ganglia Aggregate.
BACKGROUND The location and the number of lumbar sympathetic ganglia (LSG) vary between individuals. The aim of this study was to determine the appropriate level for a lumbar sympathetic ganglion block (LSGB), corresponding to the level at which the LSG principally aggregate. METHODS Seventy-four consecutive subjects, including 31 women and 31 men, underwent LSGB either on the left (n = 31) o...
متن کاملLumbar vertebral body and pars fractures following laminectomy
A 56-year-old alcoholic male incurred L5 vertebral body and bilateral L4 pars fractures with progressive L4 on L5 anterolisthesis following low-energy falls while intoxicated. Recently, he had a L3-S1 laminectomy for lumbar spinal stenosis with claudication. Preoperative imaging and radiographs were negative for pars defects and instability, so an isolated decompressive surgery was performed. F...
متن کاملPelvic Incidence and Lumbar Spine Instability Correlations in Patients with Chronic Low Back Pain
PURPOSE Many factors such as lumbar instability and spinopelvic alignment are associated with low back pain. Our purpose was to analyze the pelvic incidence - one of spinopelvic alignment parameters- and spine instability correlations in patients with chronic low back pain. METHODS Fifty-two patients suffering from chronic low back pain entered this case control study. Lateral spine radiograp...
متن کاملBilateral spondylolysis of inferior articular processes of the fourth lumbar vertebra: a case report
Lumbar spondylolysis, a well known cause of low back pain, usually affects the pars interarticularis of a lower lumbar vertebra and rarely involves the articular processes. We report a rare case of bilateral spondylolysis of inferior articular processes of L4 vertebra that caused spinal canal stenosis with a significant segmental instability at L4/5 and scoliosis. A 31-year-old male who had suf...
متن کاملTotal disc replacement positioning affects facet contact forces and vertebral body strains.
STUDY DESIGN A validated nonlinear three-dimensional finite element (FE) model of a single lumbar motion segment (L3-L4) was used to evaluate the effects of total disc replacement (TDR). The model was implanted with a fixed-bearing TDR (ProDisc-L) at 2 surgically relevant positions and exercised about the 3 anatomic axes. Facet forces, range of motion (RoM), and vertebral body strains were eval...
